Default Yahoo now accept sitemaps

Yahoo now accepts google style sitemaps and msn has agreed to join in too. They have a joint site [url=http://www.sitemaps.org/] To use your sitemap on Yahoo

Go to

https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com

If you already have a yahoo account (for mail etc) log in or create an account

Then you can put the url of your xml sitemap in the submit site feed option on this page

https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit

All I had to do to my sitemap to convert it from google to the new standard was change the 2nd line from

<urlset xmlns="http://www.google.com/schemas/sitemap/0.84">

To

<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">

Default Yahoo now accept sitemaps

Personally I think this is better than Goggles current webmaster facility, do you have any experience of using the delete url option, I'm slightly worried about using this, after hearing and reading peoples comments and experiences of using Google delete service and the affects this had on pr.

Any information would be much appreciated...

what exactly does this site map do? is it just a sort of index?

Will it show pages that arent on the host any more but the yahoo pages found in the past? (allowing you to see old deleted pages)

This is a xml file that includes all the different URL's within your site that you would like a particular search engine to list in its results index.

Your basically creating a feed that you provide to the search engines, as your sites expands and develops you will need to update your sitemap xml file to match. Both Google and Yahoo accept sitemap feeds.

There are a number of online tools that can be used to create the sitemap files which will allow you to specify relevant information such as change frequency, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. This lets you specify how often you expect the content within these pages to change.
