Exclamation New DNS Management

We recently released our new version of the DNS Management section of your control panel.

The new version includes:

- Clearer, more friendly layout
- Support for TXT(SPF) and NS records
- Support for multiple same-hostname A records (for loadbalancing/redundancy)
- Change log so you always have a record of the changes you make
- Reset of Zone, for starting afresh
- Improved, more efficient backend to make your DNS updates live instantly!

The updates also included an update of the Web Forwarding backend and the addition of a default TXT/SPF record for all new domains.

We would really like to hear what you think of it!

Nice one. Much nicer to use that anyone elses DNS management out there. Would ideally like to be able to add SRV records, but still pretty good.

Thanks for your views. SRV records were not included in this update but will be available in a future release.

We are also considering adding NAPTR records in addition to SRV so that you can set up appropriate records for VOIP/ENUM.

What do you think?

Yeah, could be useful. Not used them before, but as you say - they may well be needed as some kind of telephone directory in the future!

what about LOC records? Do you think that they might eventually be used by some GPS systems?

There are no plans currently for including LOC records in our services. I'm not sure how you would use LOC records in a GPS system....perhaps you'd like to eloborate? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Just for the record we are looking to be releasing AAAA (IPv6) records over the coming months.

Default Great News

Thanks guys I've been waiting for this, the reset option will be very handy and I guess I wont have to bother you now to reset it when I do something I shouldn't!

PS, liking the new front end feel!

Well, I was thinking that if you wanted to set your Sat-Nav to go to a company, then you could just put in the domain, i.e. google.co.uk and this would use the LOC record in DNS to find the longitude/latitude for their head offices.

Then, if you were a big enough company and had several large locations, you could create subdomains like london.google.co.uk or bristol.google.co.uk which could be publicised on the companies website, making it much easier to programme your sat-nav.

Sounds like a good idea - I guess it would save remembering the Postcode. All you would need to remember is the domain name...

Default Love it

I have to say, I love it. I'm relativly new to DNS, but from what I understand about it, it all makes a lot more sense at Domainmonster than anywhere else! I particularly like the logging of changes. I've called their support team a few times to be told that I've basically made a mistake (Very helpful by the way!).

No-one likes to make mistakes, so felt a little detered to be told I was wrong, however the logs helped them and I prove what I'd done wrong and more importantly I could understand what I'd done wrong, where and how!
