While it's never nice to find a broken link or try to type in an URL and find that something isn't where we thought it was, being met with a custom 404 error page is much more friendly than our browser standard error page. Therefore it's a good idea to design a custom error page for your website, which takes visitors back to your homepage or a search box. Some websites even have amusing 404 error pages.
