I bought my domain name roughly nine months ago, and I was informed it would be mine for two years, am I told a month before it expires for e.g. so I can re new my ownership?

Depending on the domain registrar you used this will vary, for all domainmonster.com customers you have an option within your control panel to modify and set renewal notification settings.

You will receive an automated renewal email reminder 30 days and 48 hours before the renewal date. You can also set the domain to auto-renew, with this option you will receive a renewal reminder 30 days prier to the renewal date and within the next 48 hrs we will attempt to take payment from your account details and renew the domain.
